With eleven courses on offer, most families are unsure where to start. This section explains how courses connect and how we recommend a starting point.
What courses does Aus Online Quran Academy offer?
Eleven courses: Noorani Qaida, Tajweed, Hifz, Quranic Arabic, Tafseer, Islamic Studies, Ijazah, plus audience-specific classes for Kids, Adults, Sisters, and Reverts.
I don't know which course to start with, what should I do?
Tell us your or your child's current reading level when you book a free trial, and we will recommend a starting point, usually Noorani Qaida for complete beginners.
What is the typical course progression?
Most students move from Noorani Qaida through Tajweed, then choose between Hifz (memorisation), Quranic Arabic and Tafseer (understanding meaning), or Ijazah (formal certification).
Can I switch courses after enrolling?
Yes. If a course is not the right fit, message us and we will discuss moving you to a more suitable course or level, usually from your next billing cycle.
Do I need to complete Noorani Qaida before Tajweed?
In most cases yes, since Tajweed builds on being able to read Arabic script accurately. Your tutor will assess this directly during your free trial.
Noorani Qaida is our starting course for anyone with no prior Arabic reading experience. These are the questions we get asked most often about it.
What is Noorani Qaida?
Noorani Qaida is a foundational course teaching Arabic letter recognition, correct pronunciation, and basic reading rules, the standard starting point before Quran recitation begins.
What age can a child start Noorani Qaida?
Most children start from around age three, though there is no fixed minimum. Sessions run 30 minutes to match early attention spans.
Can adults take Noorani Qaida too?
Yes. Many adult beginners and reverts to Islam start with the same course, taught at an adult-appropriate pace.
How long does Noorani Qaida usually take to complete?
This varies by student and weekly frequency, but most students complete it within several months of consistent attendance.
What comes after finishing Noorani Qaida?
Most students move directly into our Tajweed course once basic reading is solid.
Tajweed covers the rules for pronouncing Arabic letters correctly during Quran recitation. Here is what students commonly ask before enrolling.
What is Tajweed and why does it matter?
Tajweed is the set of rules for pronouncing Arabic letters correctly during Quran recitation. A small pronunciation shift can change a word's meaning entirely, which is why the rules matter.
Do I need to already know how to read Arabic before starting Tajweed?
Yes, basic reading ability from a course like Noorani Qaida is expected before Tajweed-level correction becomes effective.
Is Tajweed suitable for adults who already recite but never learned the rules formally?
Yes, this describes a large portion of our Tajweed students, adults correcting years of self-taught habits with a tutor's direct feedback.
Do you issue a certificate after completing Tajweed?
Yes, an internal academy certificate is issued on completion, naming the modules covered and the completion date.
How is Tajweed taught differently online versus in a group class?
Online one-to-one Tajweed means every mistake is corrected the moment it happens, rather than waiting for a tutor's attention to reach you in a group setting.
Hifz is our structured Quran memorisation program, built around the traditional Sabaq, Sabaqi, Manzil method. These are the most common questions before starting.
What is the Sabaq, Sabaqi, Manzil method?
It is a three-part daily structure: Sabaq is new memorisation, Sabaqi is recent revision, and Manzil is long-term revision of everything previously memorised, all checked weekly by a tutor.
Can I already read the Quran with reasonable fluency before starting Hifz?
Hifz builds on reading ability rather than teaching it from scratch. If fluent reading isn't there yet, tutors typically recommend starting with the Noorani Qaida course first.
How long does it take to memorise the full Quran?
This depends entirely on the student's pace, consistency, and age. There is no fixed timeline, and any academy quoting one before assessing you should be treated with caution.
Why do most Hifz attempts fail?
Insufficient revision, not insufficient memorisation speed, is the most common reason. New memorisation without a structured revision cycle is quickly forgotten.
Is Hifz available for both children and adults?
Yes. Segments are tailored separately for kids, adults, and sisters requesting a female Hifz teacher.
Do you offer Ijazah certification after completing Hifz?
Yes. Hifz completion is a prerequisite for our Hifz-track Ijazah certification, assessed personally by our founder.
This course teaches the specific Arabic vocabulary and grammar used throughout the Quran, for students who can already recite but want to understand what they are reading.
What is the difference between Quranic Arabic and Tajweed?
Tajweed teaches correct pronunciation while reciting. Quranic Arabic teaches the vocabulary and grammar needed to understand the meaning of what is being recited.
Do I need fluent conversational Arabic to take this course?
No. This course teaches only the specific vocabulary and grammar patterns used in the Quran, not general conversational Arabic.
Is Quranic Arabic useful if I already understand translations?
Yes. Reading translations gives one interpretation, while understanding the Arabic directly lets you engage with the text's structure and nuance yourself.
Who typically takes this course?
Students who already recite fluently and want a deeper personal connection to the meaning, often as a step before or alongside Tafseer.
Tafseer goes beyond translation to explain the context, meaning, and application of Quranic verses. These questions come up most often from prospective students.
What is the difference between translation and Tafseer?
Translation is a direct word-for-word or verse-by-verse rendering into another language. Tafseer explains the historical context of revelation, connects verses to authentic Hadith, and draws out practical meaning.
What Tafseer tradition do your tutors teach from?
Our tutors teach within the established tradition of Tafsir bi'l-Ma'thur, exegesis grounded in the Quran itself, authentic Hadith, and explanations passed down from the companions and early scholars.
Do I need to already recite fluently before starting Tafseer?
Yes. Tafseer assumes comfortable recitation is already in place, since the course focuses on meaning rather than pronunciation.
Can I ask about specific classical commentaries during class?
Yes. Ask your tutor directly during your free trial which classical commentaries they draw from for a given surah, since this can vary by topic.
Islamic Studies covers Fiqh, Aqeedah, and daily Islamic practice alongside Quran learning. Here is what families typically ask before enrolling.
What topics are covered in Islamic Studies?
Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), Aqeedah (core beliefs), and daily Islamic practice, taught privately and at a pace suited to genuine questions rather than a rushed group syllabus.
Is Islamic Studies taught alongside Quran classes or separately?
It can be taken as a standalone course or alongside Quran classes, depending on a family's preference and schedule.
Is this course suitable for someone with very basic religious knowledge?
Yes. Tutors adjust content and pace for a student's actual starting point, including reverts and beginners with limited prior exposure.
Does this course align with any Australian school curriculum?
Content can support subjects such as HSC Studies of Religion, though this should be confirmed directly with your school and syllabus requirements.
Ijazah is our advanced-level authorisation to recite or teach the Quran, assessed personally by our founder. These are the most common questions from prospective candidates.
What is the difference between Ijazah and Sanad?
Ijazah is the certification itself, the formal authorisation to recite or teach. Sanad is the documented chain of teachers connecting that certification back through generations.
Do I need to memorise the whole Quran to get Ijazah?
No. Recitation Ijazah (Tilawah) confirms accurate reading from the Mushaf without requiring memorisation. Only Hifz Ijazah requires the entire Quran to be memorised.
How long does the Ijazah process take?
This varies significantly by student and path. Recitation Ijazah is generally shorter than Hifz Ijazah, and a realistic estimate can only be given after assessment.
Is an Ijazah earned online considered valid?
Yes, provided the teacher granting it holds a genuine, documented Sanad. Ours is granted personally by our founder, with Sanad documentation available on request.
Can I pursue Ijazah in a specific recitation style?
Our current track certifies in Hafs 'an Asim, the most widely used recitation style worldwide. Ask your tutor if you are interested in a different Qira'ah.
Many adults join us to start Quran study for the first time, restart after years away, or correct self-taught habits. Here is what adult students ask most.
Is it too late to start learning the Quran as an adult?
No. Most adults who join us feel exactly this way before their first class, and tutors are specifically experienced in teaching adult beginners at a comfortable pace.
Can I choose a male or female tutor as an adult student?
Yes. Tutor gender preference is the default option for adult students, not a special request.
How do classes fit around a full-time work schedule?
Scheduling covers every Australian time zone with morning, evening, and weekend slots, so classes can fit around work commitments.
Can I start Hifz as an adult?
Yes, many adult students pursue Hifz, though the pace is generally slower than for a full-time student and is structured around realistic weekly capacity.
A female tutor is the default option for any sister, mother, or daughter requesting one. This section covers the questions we get asked most about female-tutor classes.
Can I request a female Quran teacher specifically?
Yes. Female tutors are the default for any student, family, or sister requesting one, at no extra cost and with no special approval process.
Are classes with a female tutor truly one-to-one?
Yes. Every class is private, between one student and one tutor. There is no group class option at any level or age.
Can my daughter stay with the same female tutor as she gets older?
In most cases, yes. We aim to keep a student with the same tutor across courses and stages wherever scheduling allows.
Is this suitable for a revert who feels embarrassed asking basic questions?
Yes. This is one of the most common reasons sisters and reverts specifically request a female tutor, and our tutors are used to starting from true zero without judgment.
A male tutor is the default option for any boy or man booking a class. This section covers what students ask most about male-tutor classes.
Can I request a male Quran teacher specifically?
Yes. A male tutor is the default for any boy or man booking a class, at no extra cost and with no special approval process needed.
What courses are available with a male tutor?
All courses, including Noorani Qaida, Tajweed, Hifz, Islamic Studies, Quran Translation and Tafseer, and Ijazah certification, are available with a male tutor.
Can my son stay with the same male tutor as he gets older?
In most cases, yes. We aim to keep a student with the same tutor across courses and stages wherever scheduling allows.
Many new Muslims join us with no prior exposure to Arabic or Islamic practice. This section covers the questions reverts ask most before starting.
I am new to Islam and have never read Arabic before, where do I start?
Noorani Qaida is the standard starting point for any complete beginner, assuming no prior knowledge of Arabic letters or Islamic practice at all.
Can I ask general questions about Islam, not just Quran reading?
Yes. Many students are still working through bigger belief questions alongside learning to pray and read Quran, and this is treated as a normal part of the process.
Is there a tutor experienced specifically with reverts?
Yes. Certain tutors specialise in beginners and new Muslims specifically, teaching students starting from true zero with no assumptions.
Will I be judged for not knowing basic things?
No. Tutors working with reverts are specifically experienced in starting from zero, and no question is treated as too basic.
This section covers how classes are scheduled across Australian time zones, how child safety is handled, and what is needed technically to join a class.
What time zones do you schedule across?
AEST, ACST, and AWST, covering every Australian state and territory, so a family in Perth and a family in Sydney both get a slot that fits their day.
What do I need technically to join a class?
Only a phone, tablet, or computer with a stable internet connection and either Zoom or Skype installed, both free to use.
How are tutors vetted before teaching?
Every tutor completes identity verification, a reference check with a prior teaching institution, and a supervised trial period before being matched with any student.
Are classes ever recorded?
No. Classes are never recorded or stored by the academy. Each session exists only as a live call between the student and their assigned tutor.
What happens if I miss a class?
Rescheduling is subject to reasonable notice and our stated rescheduling policy, available from your assigned tutor or academy management.
Who do I contact if I have a safety concern?
Message academy management directly through WhatsApp or email, not the tutor. Every report is acknowledged within 24 hours and followed up with a direct response.
Message us directly and a real person from the academy replies, usually within 24 hours across every Australian time zone. Or book a free trial class and ask your tutor directly, no card required.
